ai.bookmarker — Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 13, 2026
ai.bookmarker is a Chrome extension that files your bookmarks into folders with AI. This policy explains what it reads, where that data goes, and what it stores.
The short version
- By default, everything stays on your computer. The extension uses Chrome's built-in AI (Gemini Nano), which runs on your device.
- Only if you add your own Google AI key are bookmark titles, web addresses and a short excerpt of the page you are bookmarking sent to Google to choose a folder.
- No analytics, no tracking, no ads, no selling of data. The developer receives nothing.
What the extension reads
| Data | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| The current page's title, address, description, headings and up to about 1,500 characters of its visible text | Only when you choose Bookmark this page with AI (right-click menu or popup) | To understand what the page is about and choose a folder |
| Your bookmarks and bookmark folders (titles and addresses) | When you save a bookmark (also with Chrome's star, if that setting is on), search, or use Sort my bookmarks | To find existing folders, avoid duplicates, file bookmarks, and find what you search for |
The extension does not read pages you visit unless you ask it to bookmark that page. It does not read your browsing history.
Where the data is processed
Local AI (default). Processing happens inside Chrome on your computer using Chrome's built-in AI. Nothing is sent over the internet.
Google AI (optional). If your computer cannot run Chrome's local AI, you can add your own free Google AI (Gemini) API key in the extension's settings. When the Google AI option is used, the extension sends to Google's Gemini API (generativelanguage.googleapis.com):
- bookmark titles and web addresses being sorted, and
- for Bookmark this page with AI, the short page excerpt described above,
- for an AI search (pressing Enter in the search box or the address bar), what you typed and the titles, addresses and folder names of up to 40 matching bookmarks,
together with the names of your bookmark folders and example sites inside them, so the AI can pick a folder. Google processes this under its own terms and privacy policy for the Gemini API. You can remove your key at any time in the extension's settings; the extension then stops sending anything to Google.
What the extension stores
All of this is stored only in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) on your computer. It is not synced and not sent to the developer.
- Your settings (which AI to use) and, if you added one, your Google AI API key
- Corrections you make with Move (which website belongs in which folder), so the extension learns your preferences
- Which category each of your folders belongs to, so they are only analysed once
- A short note of what the AI said each sorted bookmark is about, so search can find it by meaning
- The last saved bookmark and the most recent Sort my bookmarks results, so you can review and undo them
Uninstalling the extension deletes all of this data.
What the extension does not do
- It does not collect, sell, rent or share your data with anyone.
- It does not use your data for advertising, profiling or credit decisions.
- It does not run code downloaded from the internet. All of its code is included in the extension package.
- It does not change bookmarks without your action: saving happens when you ask, a page you save with Chrome's star is only moved if that setting is on (with Undo), and Sort my bookmarks shows a preview and moves nothing until you click Apply (and offers Undo).
Children
The extension is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
